Jordan Campbell slammed Borna Barisic for his display in the first half as Glasgow Rangers lost 3-0 away in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night.
The Lowdown: Outfought
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team were simply outfought by their crosstown rivals, who recorded more tackles, interceptions, clearances and aerial duels won than them, and totally blitzed the Gers in the first half with two fine strikes from Reo Hatate and a goal poked home by Liel Abada (SofaScore).
The result has now given Celtic the advantage in the title race, as they leapfrogged the Light Blues at the summit of the Premiership table.
The Latest: Barisic slammed
Taking to Twitter, The Athletic journalist Campbell slammed the performance of Barisic and his Rangers team-mates in the first half, claiming that the Croatia international in particular was ‘fast asleep’ when Abada was free to score unmarked and unchallenged.
The journalist fumed: “A disaster for Rangers. 3-0 down before half-time and they’ve been completely outplayed. Barisic fast asleep at the back post but the whole team has been miles off it. A large part of that down to Rangers looking like they don’t have a plan.”
The Verdict: Barisic nightmare
It is safe to say that Barisic had nothing short of a nightmare at left-back, so much so that he was hauled off by Van Bronckhorst at half-time.
The 29-year-old was at fault for the Celts’ third goal and constantly met attacks down his side which he simply could not defend.
Attacking-wise, Barisic failed to record a single dribble, key pass or accurate cross, and he was also guilty of giving the ball away nine times (SofaScore), summing up his woeful night.
